Medical services in rural and remote areas\u00a0<span class=\"text_exposed_show\"><br \/>\n2. National immunization program<br \/>\n3. Access to aged care at home<br \/>\n4. New listings on the pharmaceutical benefits scheme (pbs)<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"text_exposed_show\">\n<p>More info as below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Medical services in rural and remote areas<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Financial assistance is proposed to be increased for\u00a0the Royal Flying Doctor Service to improve the delivery\u00a0and availability of dental, mental health and emergency\u00a0aeromedical services in rural and remote areas.\u00a0This is part of measures to achieve stronger rural,\u00a0regional and remote health outcomes by aligning the\u00a0distribution of the health workforce to areas of greatest\u00a0need and building the capability of Australia\u2019s medical\u00a0practitioner workforce.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. National immunization program<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Certain vaccines are proposed to be listed on the\u00a0National Immunisation Program from 1 July 2018.\u00a0Vaccinations introduced on the list include those\u00a0to prevent whooping cough in pregnant women,\u00a0influenza in people aged over 65, and the prevention of\u00a0meningococcal in children.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Access to aged care at home<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Government proposes to increase the number of\u00a0high level home care packages by 14,000 over four\u00a0years. It will be introduced over four years from 2018-19.\u00a0The intention is to support the choice of older Australians\u00a0who wish to stay at home and avoid going into residential\u00a0care.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. New listings on the pharmaceutical benefits scheme (pbs)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Government has introduced new and amended\u00a0listings on the PBS, including Spinraza for the treatment\u00a0of spinal muscular atrophy. Changes will apply over\u00a0various dates from 1 January to 1 July 2018.
